One cake popular in the 1940s and 1950s was the KEK KEPALA MEJA, literally the cake which decorated or "headed" the table.
This cake was the centrepiece of the table. It was a normal cake but covered with thick icing and was normally made by the unmarried daughters of the house.
Its PURPOSE was interesting, too. The cake could be cut and eaten only by a man who was INTERESTED in the household's unmarried daughter. By doing so, he had INDICATED that his family would be coming over soon to formally ask for the host family for the hand in marriage of the daughter who baked the cake.
However, this could cause some trepidation for some young men, especially if the household had several unmarried daughters. He most likely would have liked to be clear about exactly which daughter he intended to marry.
In the modern world, however, most young men and women have known each other before the man proposes, so there is no longer the need for these betrothal cakes.
Today's cakes are for eating, and in the land of plenty during Hari Raya Aidil Fitri, there will be far too many of them, available in a rainbow of colours and in a multitude of tastes as well.

p/s: maaflah..xpandai bercerita..
